Change to NICE Lipid Modification Guidance
NICE have issued a change to their guidance CG67 ‘Cardiovascular risk assessment and the modification of blood lipids for the primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease’. NICE has withdrawn the recommendation that the Framingham risk equation should be the equation of choice for CVD risk, but agreed that it should be one of the possible equations used. The guidelines now do not contain a recommended risk equation, and it is up to individual NHS organisations to decide which risk equation best suits their requirements.
