NHS Health Check e-Bulletin -February 2013 edition

NHS Health Check dementia resources now available

In the January edition of this e-Bulletin, we advised you that two key resources would be developed to support the introduction of the dementia component of the NHS Health Check.  We are therefore pleased to advise you that the following resources can be now accessed.

NHS Health Check dementia leaflet

The NHS Health Check dementia leaflet has been developed to support the dementia information given to those aged 65-74 years of age during their appointment.  These leaflets are available to order free of charge in a variety of formats and languages through the Department of Health order line.

Web based NHS Health Check dementia training tool

It was agreed that a web based training tool should be developed to support roll-out of the dementia component. We have therefore developed this free resource which is hosted on the NHS Health Check website.  The resource is aimed at those individuals providing the NHS Health Check and includes a self-assessment section which will then provide a certificate of completion.  We are also exploring the possibility of this resource receiving continued professional development points and will advise you of the outcome of our finding when possible.

We would also encourage you to include the dementia component in your future local training and competency programmes.  We are also aware that some areas are already working collaboratively with the providers of local memory clinic services to provide direct training to staff delivering the NHS Health Check programme.  We are actively working with these sites to develop case studies to share via the Learning Network and will provide these on our website when possible.
